Santa Ema Amplus One Carmenere 2016

Santa Ema Amplus One Carmenere 2016

Amplus is a Latin word that means important, honorable, and distringuished-concepts that clearly define the wines in Santa Ema’s Amplus line.  They are more concentrated and have more fruit expressions due to the naturally low yielding vines/

Peumo is one of the most famous areas for carmenere in Chile. The cool air that follows the Cachapoal River down from the Andes meets the intense sun of the area, allowing the vines to mature their fruit while sustaining freshness in the grapes. This 2016 is packed with red fruit, graciously combined with herbal notes in a texture that feels soft and friendly, lasting on a slightly chocolatey finish.

VARIETALS: Carmenere, Syrah, Carignan

APPELLATION: Cachapoal Valley

AGING: 12 months in French oak barrels (25% new, 50% second use, 25% third use), with a minimum of 6 months in the bottle.

ALCOHOL: 14.0 %

Deep ruby red with violet notes.  Expressive and intense, recalling red and black cherries and black currant, along with notes of tobacco, chocolate, and pencil lead.  Well structured and potent with ripe and rounded tannins that lend a seductive and voluminous finish.  Enjoy with pork, chicken, or turkey with creamy sauces. Also ideal with pastas and smoked cheeses.

Santa Ema Amplus One Carmenere 2016

Santa Ema crafts generous, elegant and consumer-friendly wines produced in Isla de Maipo, the premier growing area in Chile’s acclaimed Maipo Valley, world-famous for its distinctive red wines. Santa Ema’s founding Pavone family trace their history in Chile back to 1917 when they first came to the region as grape farmers. Nearly 100 years and three generations of hands-on experience gives Santa Ema a deep understanding of the Maipo Valley’s unique terroir, and helps create some of the most irresistible wines in Chile.

MAIPO: The Maipo Valley is firmly established as a producer of exceptional Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varietals. Santa Ema has two primary cellars in the valley: Izaga and El Peral. The cooling influence of the Maipo River on one side and the Andes Mountains on the other extend the growing season, while the shallow, alluvial soils provide ideal conditions for the valley’s red varietals.

CACHAPOAL: Located 10 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, the cool winds blowing through the Rapel Valley allow Carmenere and other red grapes exceptionally long hang time.

CASABLANCA: Characterized by a cold, ocean-cooled climate, white wines from this region possess a tremendous fruitiness and elegance.

LEYDA: Even cooler than Casablanca, wines of this region possess a tremendous minerality and sophistication, led by outstanding Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Recognized as one of the strongest quality-to-price wine brands in the U.S. today, Santa Ema was recently included as one of Wine Spectator’s Top 20 World’s Finest Value Brands and named Value Winery of the Year by Wine & Spirits magazine.
